Actual Existence

albinobone They named it 'Actual Existence'. As an habitual postmodernist, I've secretly yearned for someone to tell me what really 'is.' What a relief to finally find it! It's been so exhausting to continually suspend the drawing of conclusions about 'reality.' Well, here are those conclusions. And they're just effing great.

Brent Baron So happy I was able to get this LP. A win in my direction and anyone who is thinking about this, u won't stop listening to it (and learning some killer phrases from it as well) Favorite track: L.Layer.

Nathan Neugebauer Great preview! Can't wait till the full album comes out! Now for the full review! If you have the patience, (I know 10 minute songs might bore you), this album is so rewarding. Pretty much since this album has come out I've been listening to it non stop. After seeing RLYR perform, it just takes me back to these songs. They're so layered, so nuanced, just hearing them over and over, is enjoyable. So far my AOTYP, 9/10. Notes the Production, if you like that kind of thing. Favorite track: Actual Existence.

DoujinShinji They've certainly done it again. Focusing a bit more on song structuring, this album comes off as more complex than their first album, Delayer, but all the charm of RLYR is still very much alive here. Highly recommended for fans of heavier instrumental music.

Tim Roughgarden One of my favorite LPs from 2018. Math-y and catchy as hell. Favorite track: L.Layer.

Chicago-based experimental rock trio RLYR (pronounced “Relayer”) are proud to present their sophomore album Actual Existence, a four song full-length that distills and expands on the explosive energy and anthemic catharses of the band’s 2016 debut Delayer. Comprising Steven Hess (Locrian, Cleared), Colin DeKuiper (Bloodiest, ex-Russian Circles), and Trevor Shelley de Brauw (Pelican, Chord), RLYR’s indelible earworm melodies belie the intricacy and labryinthian structures of their songs. Actual Existence represents a step forward in complexity for the instrumental band, while preserving the exhilarating climaxes and frenetic intensity that are hallmarks of their live performances.
